Are Wikki Stix the same as pipe cleaners?

The core of the Wikki Stix is acrylic synthetic yarn (unlike pipe cleaners there is no metal core in a Wikki Stix making it much safer). The wax coating is food grade and made of a similar substance to that found in lipstick and bubble gum. Wikki Stixx are completely non toxic (see below).
