What is blogging?
Blogging refers to writing, photography, and other media that’s self-published online. Blogging started as an opportunity for individuals to write diary-style entries, but it has since been incorporated into websites for many businesses. The hallmarks of blogging include frequent updates, informal language, and opportunities for readers to engage and start a conversation.
The word blog is actually a shortened form of its original name, “weblog.” These weblogs allowed early internet users to “log” the details of their day in diary-style entries. Blogs often allow readers to comment, so as they became more common, communities sprung up around popular blogs.
The content of blogs varies significantly. For example, travel blogs may feature many pictures with few written passages, while political blogs may weigh in with wordy takes on the news of the day. The popularity of YouTube and similar sites also gave rise to video blogging, or “vlogging.”

How can I drive traffic to my blog?

What tools do top bloggers use?
Top bloggers tend to use similar tools to create, publish, and host their digital content. If you are looking to build a professional looking website, we would recommend you check out our list of essential blogging tools.
What is web hosting and why do I need It?
If you have a blog or website, you must have a company that provides the connection between your site and the world wide web. Think of it like a shopping mall.
People go shopping in the mall and to reach them, you must have space in the mall. The mall, in other words, hosts your store. You pay them to rent. Hosting is a bit like that.
It is technically possible to make your own hosting but it is not realistic for the majority of people, and certainly not as a new blogger. You would need great technical expertise. 99% of bloggers pay for hosting.
Do I need to know how to code?
If you use a blogging platform like WordPress (which I recommend everyone), you don’t need to know how to code at all. You can choose and install a theme of your choice and use the interface to customize your blog and have it look the way you want.
However, you may want to learn a little bit of CSS to make minor design changes that your theme may not offer.
What is the difference between a blog and website?
A blog is simply a type of website. Blogs use blog software in order to make designing, writing, and publishing your content as simple and professional as possible.
Blogs can be customized to do just about anything, but most blogs tend to offer fresh content on a regular basis along with the ability for readers to leave comments. These are not requirements however, as many large established sites use the WordPress blog software to create things that look nothing like traditional blogs.
How can I get the search engines to index my blog?
It can take a few weeks for your blog to get picked up by search engines once you start posting. However, there are a few steps you can take to get your blog indexed faster, such as submitting it to search engine directories. Just remember, this does not mean you’ll immediately reach the top of search results. This requires time and performing something called “SEO” (Search Engine Optimization) on your site.
How do I view how many visitors I’m getting to my blog?
Visitor counters on free blogging sites are almost always inaccurate. If you’ve setup a blog on a free blogging platform, you can use Google Analytics to view a more accurate count (it’s free!). If you’re running a self-hosted blog, you can also use the website statistics provided to you in your hosting dashboard.
