What is HubPages?

How can I make money on HubPages?

By serving ads on your articles, HubPages gives Hubbers the opportunity to earn from their published work. To earn from your writing, you must first sign up with one (or more) of the affiliate and earnings programs that they have available.

Being set up with HubPages affiliate and earnings programs does not mean that you will be guaranteed earnings. Your income from HubPages is contingent on your success as an author– specifically your success in driving traffic to your articles.

In short, to make money, you need to sign up with their affiliate partners while also regularly publishing high-quality articles on not-already-extensively-covered subjects about which you are both knowledgeable and passionate.

Finally, you must be patient. Most HubSpot writers, even very talented and active ones, do not see significant earnings (or even make their first payout) for at least six months. HubPages is not a ‘get rich quick’ scheme, but can certainly pay off for those who are willing to put in the time and effort required to create a robust, truly valuable, search-friendly portfolio of articles.

What is HubPro?

HubPro is a free professional editing service provided by HubPages. The program includes two tiers of editing: Basic and Premium. It is currently available only to a small percentage of Hubbers.

HubPro Basic includes the following services:

  • Editing for spelling and grammar.
  • Editing for formatting that reflects the HubPages Style Guide, e.g., providing a consistent style free of broken videos, low-quality photos, and elements that take away from the authority of the article.
  • Assuring that all links and products are relevant and beneficial to the reader.
  • Adding of creative commons images or videos to enhance the reader experience.
  • Updates to titles and subtitles to make them more reader and search engine friendly.

HubPro Premium is a much more extensive editing service designed to help create magazine-like articles that are the best on the web for their topic. HubSpot’s editors do extensive research on the article topic to help build out the content. In addition to all of the points in HubPro Basic, Premium offers:

  • The addition of media—commissioned or creative commons
  • Topic research to build out content with additional information that should drive readership
  • Reorganization of the article’s layout
  • Fact checking and research to add content
  • Extensive Hubber and Editor collaboration

HubPro Editing is a mandatory service, and Hubbers do not have the option to opt out of the service should their article(s) be selected. Hubbers selected to participate in either tier will receive an email notification before editing will begin and a second notice on the day that editing begins. Editing is done on a piece-by-piece basis. Hubbers may be selected to participate multiple times.

How does HubPro work?

Hubbers that are selected to participate in HubPro can expect to:

  • Receive an email notice before editing will begin. This notice will also be displayed in My Account > Hubs > Statistics.
  • Receive a second email notice on the day that editing will begin.
  • Have their articles locked while they are being edited. HubPro Basic articles may be locked for a couple of days, while HubPro Premium articles may be locked for up to a couple of weeks.
  • Receive a final notice when the editor is finished working.
  • Have the option to revert any changes they are not satisfied with after their article is unlocked. However, articles that are changed extensively after edits are completed, and that live on Network Sites, could be moved back to HubPages.
